Rio 2016 Paralympics: Nigeria’s Latifat Tijani has won the country’s first medal at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Tijani came in second behind China’s Hu Dandan in the women’s 45 kg Powerlifting event after lifting 106 kg behind the Chinese woman

Hu set a new world and also a paralympic record with her 107 kg lift. Suffolk powerlifter Zoe Newson took the bronze medal.

It’s a good start for Team Nigeria and surely this is the first of many at the games.
