Rio 2016 Paralympics: Nigeria Names 23 Athletes, 6 Coaches Ahead Of Games

Rio 2016 Paralympics: With less than 10 days to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the Paralympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN) in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Sports have named 23 athletes and 6 coaches to represent the country in Brazil.

Unveiling the list on Sunday, the Media Officer of the Paralympic Committee Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Ibeh, said Team Nigeria will compete in three sports – where it has comparative advantage at the Games.

According to Ibeh, the events are athletics, power-lifting and table-tennis.

In summary, Ibeh said six athletes – five females and one male – will compete in athletic events while 14 athletes – 7 males and 7 females – are to take part in power-lifting events, which will commence between 7th and 18th of September in Rio, Brazil.

This is even as Table-tennis has three athletes – 2 males and 1 female – representing Nigeria.

Those competing in athletics events are Hannah Babalola, Eucharia Iyiazi, Lauritta Onye, Lovina Onyegbule, Flora Ugwunwa and Friday Aibangbe, the only male athlete while Patrick Aieto and Adekunle Adesoji are the two coaches.

Those for power lifting include, Nsini Ben, Lucy Ejike, Ndidi Nwosu, Bose Omolayo, Josephine Orji, Esther Onyema and Latifat Tijani, while Yakubu Adesokan, Roland Ezuruike, Abdulazeez Ibrahim, Nnamdi Innocent, Opeyemi Jegede, Paul Kehinde and Tolulope Taiwo are to compete in the men’s category.

The coaches are Prince Are Feyisetan, Luke Ibeh (both men) and Patience Igbiti (female). Faith Obiorah (female), Ahmed Koleosho (male) and Emmanuel Nick (male) are those for table-tennis with Chinedu Njoku as their coach.
