The 72-year-old has returned to the Bundesliga champions, as a temporary replacement for Carlo Ancelotti until the end of the season.

Heynckes has not managed a club, since guiding Bayern to an historic treble in the 2012/2013 season.

“I would not have returned to any other club in the world, but Bayern Munich is a labour of love for me. My coaching staff and I will now do everything to bring back successful football for the fans. I’m very much looking forward to this challenge,” he said.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: “There’s a great mutual trust between Jupp Heynckes and Bayern.

“We’re very thankful to Jupp that he’s accepted the offer of head coach. He’s the ideal man for Bayern at this moment in time.”
