Jose Mourinho Preparing £30 Million Diego Godin Bid: Manchester United are weighing up a January move for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, according to The Sun.

Jose Mourinho is in need of defensive reinforcements after a host of indifferent defensive display, while Eric Bailly’s long-term injury means the Portuguese is short of numbers.

Manchester United are also interested in Godin’s Atleti team-mate Jose Gimenez, but his £57.8m buy-out clause could put them off.

As a result, The Sun claim Mourinho could turn his attention to bringing Uruguay international Godin to Old Trafford instead.

The 30-year-old also has 104 caps for Uruguay and The Sun claim that he can be prized away from Diego Simone’s clutches for £30m through a release clause, with the Red Devils easily capable of offering the defender a wage far in excess of his current £70,000 a week.

Atletico currently sit in third in the La Liga table, three points off the leaders Real Madrid.

Mourinho is ready to make his move for Godin in January as he sets his sights on turning around United’s season after just one league win since August and no victory in the last four.

The club now occupy eight in the table and next face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
