Flood Hits Jigawa State Claims 18 Lives: A flood which occurred during the current rainy season in Jigawa State has claimed 18 lives and destroyed 6,637 houses.

The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, JSEMA, revealed that the flood destroyed properties spread across 19 local government areas in the state.

JSEMA Executive Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Sani, made the disclosure during a press-briefing in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State on Tuesday, September 20.

Flood Leaves 19 Local Goverment Area’s In Devastation

According to Punch, Yusuf Sani said the flood destroyed 141 houses in Dutse; 419 in Jahun; 525 in Hadejia, 417 in Babura; 525 in Ringim; 822 in Gumel; 529 in Malammadori and 126 in Birninkudu Local Government Areas.

The flood also claimed 68 houses in Taura; 120 in Kazaure; 691 in Maigatari; 336 in Gagarawa; 67 in Buji; 96 in Kirikasamma; 101 in Garki; 856 in Kiyawa; 87 in Kafinhausa; 57 in Gwaram and 54 in Suletankarkar local government areas.

Yusuf Sani stated that three people sustained injuries, while some had died after several buildings collapsed.

He reassured that the Jigawa state government had gotten involved in the dilemma and was making cash provisions for the flood victims.
