Nigeria NCC Suspends Data Price Increase: The Nigerian Communications Commission has announced the immediate suspension of the new minimum pricing template for data services by mobile operators.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has on Wednesday, 30th of November, announced the immediate suspension of the new minimum pricing template for data services by mobile operators, as the NCC said the decision is to allow for further consultation.
According to Premium Times, the new rate, which would have led to price increase in data for some Nigerians, was scheduled to take effect from December 1.
The NCC’s decision comes a few hours after the Senate ordered a stop to the planned increase.
Recall that the NCC reportedly directed all the telecommunication companies in the country to increase their DATA Services Tariff by 200%. If this is allowed to work, 1.5 Gig which presently costs N1,000.00, will then go for N3,000.00, meaning an extra N2,000.00.
