Oyo Global Forum Slams Governor Ajimobi Of Oyo State

By  |

The Vice chairman, Oyo Global Forum, Mr. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman, has slammed the Governor Ajimobi -led government of Oyo State over the handling of the welfare of workers in the education sector of the state that has led to the closure of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), in Oyo town.

Speaking to gbasibe.com.ng over the recent closure of the first teachers’ training college in the state, Olorunpoto said, “Obviously the state government failed in managing their business well and there is no indication things will take a better shape going forward.”

gbasibe.com.ng gathered that the school was closed down after students of EACOED protested over a JAMB admission regularization fee and the planned warning strike by the staff of the school which was going to affect the scheduled semester examination.

The OGF Vice Chairman concluded that, “While we must mention government’s failure to make tertiary education work in the state, it is equally important we condemn in very strong terms, the manner in which the students of EACOED protested yesterday. I urge the state government to look into the demands of the college staff and get the school back to work as soon as possible.”

It will be recalled that the students of EACOED recently protested on the streets of Oyo town which led to the disruption of traffic at major areas of the town. The police was said to have arrested some of the students while others were injured as the police attempted to disperse the protesters.

The management of the school could not be reached for comments on the situation at the time of filing this report, meanwhile law and order has been restored to the town.
