Armed Robbers Raid Benue Community: At least 13 persons have been killed during confrontation on Wednesday after a group of suspected armed robbers invaded Senge village in Katsina Ala local government area of Benue State.

The ambush by the five-man gang, belonging to wanted notorious criminal, Terwase Akwaza, also known as Ghana, met a huge brick wall as an irate mob intervened and overpowered them.

Although, they succeeded in killing 10 persons during the invasion, they were subdued as two of the bandits were  lynched to death by the intrepid villagers.

Speaking on the incident, in a statement, Spokesman of the Benue Police command, Moses Joel Yamu, said that the five gang man on Wednesday went to rob at Senga village, an interior part of Katsina Ala LGA where an irate mob lynched two among them.

The police spokesman added that the robbers on reprisal, however, could not gain access to Senga because youths of the village had mobilized to protect their area.

They were held at Kenvenger village – a close by village – where they shot and killed on the spot 10 persons.

“One later identified as “Chemical” and a lady harbouring them were killed, while the other three suspects escaped to Gbise village and mobilised for reprisal,” the spokesman said.

“Among those killed by the suspected robbers,” according to police spokesman include “one Terseer Akaya, a driver from Katsina-Ala who went to convey farm produce, also a woman with two of her children; eight months old baby and eight years old child.”

Yamu said that five other persons who were injured were rushed to the NKST hospital at Kera, Katsina-Ala LGA, where they are being treated.

According to Yamu, the state command had since deployed officers to the area to prevent further breach of peace.
