Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra looks all set to retain his crown of number one citizen of the Southeast State, if early results in the Pulse situation room are anything to go by.

Our correspondents on the ground in Anambra report that threats by the outlawed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) to kill anyone who comes out to vote, almost marred the governorship vote on Saturday as only about 50 percent of registered voters turned out to cast their ballots.

However, there were no incidents of violence across Anambra on election day.

PDP candidate Oseloka told the media that the low voter turnout was worrying.

“I chose to wait towards the closing of the accreditation period to vote instead of voting very early. I have been busy monitoring the process across the state, both in the capital territory, Nnewi, Onitsha and its environs.

“Evidently, there seems to be low voter turnout; I do not know the cause of the apathy. We can explain the low turnout in the city because people might have travelled to their villages to vote. But in other places, we do not know why the turnout has been that low”, Oseloka said.

There were also reports of malfunctioning smart card readers in a host of polling units; a situation which forced election personnel to resort to manual voting methods.

Incumbent Governor Obiano who cast his vote at the Ochuche1, Ward 01, Unit 004, Eri Primary school, Aguleri, had boasted that he was going to win by a landslide.

“I am very confident that at the end of the day, I will win this election by a landslide”, Obiano had said.

Latest reports suggest that APC’s Nwoye is also making quite an impression as the votes are being tallied by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

gbasibe will break news of winner of the election as soon as vote tallying is complete.
